MUMBAI: If the response to the MTR Foods Indian Telly Awards 2003, organised by indiantelevision.com on 21 November, was overwhelming, the ratings the telecast of the event delivered, were no less impressive.
The three-and-a-half-hour telecast on Star Plus from 8 pm on 30 November notched up an impressive TVR of 4.8 across the Hindi-speaking belt in cable and satellite households (TG 4+), ranking 49th among the top 100 shows, ratings data released by TAM Media show. In all the main metros, the event that showcased the talent of the small screen, interspersed with some vibrant musical entertainment, was able to score even better ratings.
Among the metros, it was Delhi that hit the highest notes with a TVR of 8.16. Mumbai notched up 5.5 TVRs with Kolkata logging 4.57.
But where the MTR Foods Indian Telly Awards 2003 was the biggest hit with viewers was in Gujarat towns population 100,000 to one million where it scored a 9.86.
Even the southern markets, usually cool to programming north of the Vindhyas have responded favourably, with Hyderabad recording a TVR of 3.04 for the event, and Bangalore 1.61.
The Telly Awards, in its third edition this year, bestowed honours in 66 different categories including trade, technical and popular categories.
