Sanraa Media, Malaysian firm in co-production deal

MUMBAI: Chennai-based Sanraa Media and Kuala Lumpur‘s In-Fusion Solutions have joined forces to produce an animated series and a movie based on Ibn Buttuta, the eponymous 14th century Moroccan traveler.

The two companies announced that they will co-produce Ibn Battuta: The Animated Series and a 90-minute 3D movie.

The movie will be made on an approximate budget of around $10 million.

“In-Fusion will be investing in the project which is around $10 million. Other details of the deal will be issued shortly,” says Sanraa Media CEO Sukumar Subramanium tells Indiantelevision.com.

Sanraa Media signed the MoU with In-Fusion on Wednesday. "The pre-production will take place in Malaysia, while production will be done in our Chennai office,” adds Subramanium.

The two companies will produce 13 episodes of 22 minutes each for the animated series, which will go on production in January next year.
"Ibn Battuta travelled for nearly 30 years through Morocco, Turkey and even in our own country, Malaysia," said In-Fusion executive producer Mohamad Salmi Mohd Sohod. "That allows us to introduce our viewers to a new country in each episode."

The stories will be based on the accounts of Battuta journey.

Co-executive producer Aznin Nur Ameran added, "Ibn Battuta travelled further than his near-contemporary Marco Polo. Our series is based on his account of his journey."

Sanraa Media, which depends on outsourcing contracts, ended the previous fiscal on a revenue of Rs 446.28 million and a net profit of Rs 54.16 million.
