This year, we are delighted that we can take them back to experience history in the making as the team at NASA unearths incredible truths about Mars," said National Geographic Channel senior vice president content and communication Dilshad Master.

The media release informs that the first episode Mars: Closer to the Truth follows principle investigator Steve Squyres and his team of ace geologists as they analyze the data sent back from the two landing sites - Meridiani Planum and Gusev Crater - by Opportunity and Spirit.

The programme traces the team's quest to unearth the truths hidden in the red planet's surface and ascertain whether Mars ever supported life.
