• Mipcom's opening night party to be a starry affair

    MUMBAI: This month‘s television trade event Mipcom 2012 is preparing to welcome a galaxy of internationally-recognised actors, directors, writers, producers and show business personalities, many of whom will grace the red carpet at Mipcom‘s Opening Night Party.

    Organised by Reed Midem, Mipcom will take place in Cannes, France from 8-11 October 2012.

    The Mipcom 2012 World Premiere TV Screening is new period drama, The Americans, which is being sold internationally by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution. The series‘ stars actress Keri Russell and Welsh actor Matthew Rhys will attend the gala screening and Mipcom‘s Opening Night Party on 8 October.

    Matthew Modine is turning up the heat at Mipcom to promote his role as an exiled scientist called upon to save the world in ‘Cat.8‘, a four-hour end-of-the-world miniseries produced by Muse Entertainment and distributed by Sonar Entertainment.

    Actress Gillian Anderson is launching ‘The Fall‘ at Mipcom, a new crime show to premiere on BBC Two and internationally distributed by Content Media and ZDF Enterprises.

    ‘The Walking Dead‘s Sarah Wayne Callies presents season three of AMC‘s series, alongside with producer Gale Anne Hurd, who will discuss how Fox International Channels and AMC launched the first ever television series like a theatrical movie, in over 120 countries.

    Harvey Weinstein is jetting to Mipcom to promote The Weinstein Company‘s recently-launched international television sales division. Under his leadership at TWC and Miramax, films represented by Harvey Weinstein and his brother Bob have received 303 Oscar nominations and won 75 Academy Awards.

    Jane Campion is taking centre stage at Mipcom to present her new series ‘Top of the Lake‘, executive produced by See-Saw Films and internationally distributed by BBC Worldwide.

    Michael Weatherly has held the role of NCIS special agent Anthony DiNozzo since the show‘s beginning in 2003 and, at Mipcom, CBS Studios International is celebrating the 10th anniversary of one of the world‘s most-watched television franchises. Weatherly will walk the red carpet alongside writer/executive producer Gary Gglasberg who will be also participating in a masterclass on 9 October to discuss the secrets behind running a drama and what it takes to keep a series at the top after 10 seasons.

    Entertainment One is heading to the French Riviera to launch the all-new original action series, Primeval: New World, as well as the drama series, Saving Hope. Primeval‘s Niall Matter, Danny Rahim, Sara Canning and Saving Hope‘s Erica Durance, Michael Shanks and Daniel Gillies will attend Mipcom.

    BBC Worldwide is bringing actors Matthew Macfadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg to Cannes to present the British period crime drama produced by Tiger Aspect and Lookout Point, Ripper Street. The BBC Italian-style cooking series Nigellissima will also be spotlighted at Mipcom, in the presence of internationally-renowned cook Nigella Lawson.

    Canada is the Mipcom 2012 Country of Honour. Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund are inviting world-renowned Canadian talent to meet international press during a breakfast on 8 October. The guests include Francois Arnaud, Michel Courtemanche, Stefanie von Pfetten, David Sutcliffe, Ricardo, Eve Landry and Amber Marshall.

    Dramedy Hit Women is a Rock House Productions and XII Tribes Entertainment production. MIPCOM‘s red carpet will burn under the heels of the series‘ four emotionally-charged avengers, played by Karla Dieseldorf, Diana Lovell, Kristin Passanita, and Debbie Rallo.

    Also present at Mipcom with a passion for fashion will be bridal consultant Keasha Rigsby who is taking audiences inside a bustling bridal salon in her new show Keasha‘s Perfect Dress, aired on Shaw Media-owned Canadian network Slice and produced by Toronto-based Peace Point Entertainment.

    Finally, Mipcom is welcoming its first-ever non-human walking and talking guest from British Channel 5‘s The Gadget Show, on Mipcom‘s Opening Party red carpet!

  • Dutch porn channel Dusk to rollout in Europe by year-end

    MUMBAI: Dutch TV channel Dusk, which is devoted to providing erotic content to women, plans to roll out globally beginning with the European countries.

    2GrapesMedia, the company that owns and operates Dusk, plans to launch the channel before the end of the year in several European countries.

    Dusk is available on the platforms of Dutch cable companies Ziggo, UPC, KPN and Caiw, reaching over 1.5 million cable households. The channel does its own research into what sort of porn they should be showing via a panel made up of over 1.500 women.

    They are shown snippets of films and asked to rate them according to "spiciness". If a film gets over 100 points, it makes the grade and it is shown on the channel.

    MUMBAI: MGM Television has announced its slate for next month?s television trade event Mipcom 2012 in Cannes France.

    This includes the new Bond film Skyfall directed by Sam; The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, directed by Peter Jackson and starring Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood; the fantasy-thriller Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters; the remake of the horror classic Carrie, 21 Jump Street, Robocop and Zookeeper. Television series highlights include the launch of Vikings and a new season of Teen Wolf.

    Skyfall sees Daniel Craig returns for a third time as secret agent 007 with Mendes directing. Craig?s first two appearances in this iconic role resulted in box-office gold as Quantum of Solace and Casino Royal became the two highest grossing Bond films of all-time says MGM. Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Judi Dench also star in tne new film.

    The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the prequel to the Lord Of the Rings trilogy. Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug. Directed by Peter Jackson the film stars Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood and Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

    Vikings is a drama series that revolves around the Norsemen who raided, traded and explored during medieval times, follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok as he rises to become king of the Viking tribes.

    Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is a fantasy-thriller is a new twist on the old tale that jumps 15 years after the infamous incident at the gingerbread house. The brother-sister duo is now a bounty hunter team determined to bring evil witches to a halt.

    Robocop is new film in the franchise. The film centers around Officer Alex Murphy, who is resurrected by a scientist that combines robotics with Murphy?s human brain to create the ultimate crime-fighting machine.

    In Carriea high school girl who is ruthlessly harassed by her classmates, unleashes strange mental powers towards them, leading to terror, mayhem and potential death.

  • Tricon to bring six new shows to Mipcom 2012

    MUMBAI: Tricon Films and Television has announced its slate for Mipcom 2012 featuring six new titles and over 35 new hours of scripted comedy, lifestyle, and factual content. New titles launching at Mipcom include:

    Comedy Bang Bang hosted by Scott Aukerman (co-creator/director/producer, and musical cohort Reggie Watts has character cameos, sketches, and nonstop comedic absurdity with some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Zach Galifianakis, Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks and Jon Hamm.

    Bunk! is a new breed of "comedy game show" in which a trio of comedians compete in a series of bizarre challenges to win surreal prizes. Each week, contestants are armed with nothing more than their wits and fertile imaginations as they complete offbeat games and challenges to win a myriad of "non-charitable causes" such as the ability to travel back in time, having a priest supply an alibi, and trading lives with a baby, all under the watchful eye of host Kurt Braunohler.

    I Didn?t Do It is a factual series that exposes the untold story (and personal tragedy) of wrongful convictions, one gut-wrenching case at a time. Narrated by Chris Noth I Didn?t Do It looks beyond the investigations to reveal the harrowing personal stories and long-awaited redemptions of those brought down by an imperfect justice system.

    Satan is a documentary that explores the role of the Devil in the modern age. It will trace his transformation from fallen angel to demonic beast to charismatic charlatan, showing how popular culture has influenced the public?s perception of the Devil?s presence on Earth.   • Japanese broadcasters to unveil new TV formats at Mipcom

    MUMBAI: For the first time, seven major Japanese broadcasters and two Japanese government ministries will come together at next month?s television trade event Mipcom to promote new TV format ideas to senior international television executives at the Treasure Box Japan New Formats Dinner.

    The new networking event is designed for the international TV formats community and will be held on the eve of MIPCOM to give formats executives an early start to finding the next hit format for their market. The VIP dinner will be held on 7 October.

    Organised by Reed Midem, Mipcom will take place in Cannes, from 8-11 October 2012.

    Japan has for decades inspired some of the world?s most famous formats and Japanese broadcasters, Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK), Nippon Television Network Corporation (NTV), TV Asahi Corporation (TV Asahi), Tokyo Broadcasting System Television, Inc (TBS), TV Tokyo Corporation (TV Tokyo), Fuji Television Network Inc., (Fuji TV) and Asahi Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) together with the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will be introducing the newest and most spectacular Japanese TV formats to major TV stations and production companies from around the world during the gala dinner.

    Japanese broadcasters have been attending MIPCOM individually since the 1980s, but this is the first time that they will unite into an All-Japan effort. By presenting their formats directly to the executives of leading companies attending Mipcom, the seven broadcasters hope to see more ideas from Japan converting into big international hits.

  • CBS Studios celebrates a decade of NCIS series

    MUMBAI: CBS Studios International will celebrate 10 ten years of ?NCIS?, formerly known as NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, at next month?s television trade event Mipcom in Cannes, France with show star Michael Weatherly and executive producer Gary Glasberg.

    The American police procedural drama television series was recently named Europe?s top imported drama show in 2011 by Digital TV Research, Madigan Cluff and Essential Television Statistics.

    The show ranks among the top ten US series on its channel in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Poland and the UK in 2012 through August, and the show is frequently a tent-pole series on schedules in many markets. NCIS is also the number one series telecast on M6 in France, the home of the Mipcom annual market.

    CBS Studios International president Armando Nu?ez said, "Over the years, NCIS has grown into the global powerhouse it is today. It is a thrill to be able to celebrate the show?s tenth season with Executive Producer Gary Glasberg and original cast member Michael Weatherly in Cannes with the broadcasters who have made it a top performer in their local markets."

    As part of the celebrations at Mipcom, CBS Studios International and Reed Midem will host a press conference with Weatherly and Glasberg to discuss 10 seasons of NCIS on 9, October. Glasberg will also participate in a Creative Talks master class to discuss the secrets behind running the globally successful drama.

    With liberal doses of humor, NCIS is an action drama that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. From murder and espionage to terrorism and stolen submarines, these special agents investigate all crimes with Navy or Marine Corps ties.
