LONDON: After soap operas and reality television, it is time to combine the two. In a new soap series, to be launched on Channel 4, viewers can actually decide what can happen next!
According to a digitalspy report, the new series, called Soapland , is billed as a "radical interactive series" which will have a cast full of former soap stars including Danniella Westbrook (Sam Mitchell in EastEnders), Peter Dean (Pete Beale in EastEnders), Dee Quemby (Lulu Dingle in Emmerdale), Roy Barraclough (Alec Gilroy in Coronation Street) and Anneka Svenska (Saskia Duncan in EastEnders).
Executive producer Steve Green was quoted as saying that the reality soap will have genuine cliffhanger endings and real drama as the viewers will be able to vote on various aspects - for instance even whether their favourite characters will end up in bed together. Reports indicate that the filming will happen close to transmission so that the writers can adapt the storyline depending on the result of the votes.
The show, to be launched in the spring, will be based in inner London.
