NEW YORK: Gigli may have turned out to be the biggest box office flop of the year, but that is not stopping its star Jennifer Lopez from moving on.

HBO and Lopez' Nuyorican Productions are producing a documentary feature film about Los Quinces. This is a traditional coming-of-age ball, marking a Cuban girl's 15th birthday. The film will have a theatrical release first and then make its television debut on the cable network.

First-time director Vincent Castellanos will direct the film, which will be shot in and around Miami later this year. For HBO, Jackie Glover will act as supervising producer and Sheila Nevins will be the executive producer.

Nevine is also HBO's executive vice president for original programming. She was quoted in an official release as saying, "This is a hot and vibrant concept. Jennifer's idea gives the audience something to laugh about, to celebrate and to dance to."

Lopez added, "At Nuyorican, we are committed to producing unique and provocative films. So a documentary on this tradition is a natural fit for us. We are excited that Sheila and her team at HBO took so well to the concept."

Every year, thousands of young Cuban girls go through a similar rite of passage, marking what is, for many, the single most important day of their lives. Told through the eyes of a young Cuban-American girl living in Miami, the documentary will unfold the drama of one family's journey through the passions, joys and conflicts of a rich cultural tradition, the release stated.
