30 DD Kendras do not have uplink facility

NEW DELHI: Although Doordarshan claims to cover more than 95 per cent of the television homes in the country, there is no satellite uplinking facility in 30 kendras in 18 states and Union Territories out of the 66 DD Kendras in the country.

However, DD sources told indiantelevision.com that downlinking facility is available at all kendras.

DD, which has been using satellites for almost four decades, is the only channel in the country with total terrestrial reach.

Five additional kendras - Indore, Jaipalguri, Gorakhpur, Vijaywada, and Rajkot - will get uplinking facility during 2012-13.

While Uttar Pradesh has six kendras without uplinking facility, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have two kendras each.
