Apple buys out iCloud.com for $4.5 mn

MUMBAI: Apple has bought iCloud.com from Swedish company Xcerion for $4.5 million.

While it is not clear as to what services would be offered on iCloud, analysts believe that it will be digital storage locker where customers of Apple can store music purchased on iTunes, sync documents, pictures, videos and all things digital across all the idevices.

Some believe that iCloud will integrate Apple’s MobileMe service too, thus allowing for syncing email, calendar, contacts and more.

Xcerion offers a free virtual desktop and OS on the Internet (desktop-as-a-service) that can be accessed from within a browser. Hence, the service, initially called iCloud, was rebranded as CloudMe.
