MUMBAI: Gerald Sokol, Jr., currently Senior Vice President and General Manager of International Operations, America Online has been appointed Executive Vice President, AOL International, as part of an overall reorganisation of the division.
He will report to Executive VP of AOL Time Warner International and President of AOL International Michael M. Lynton. The company also announced that Greg Consiglio, currently VP, AOL International, has been named Senior VP, AOL International. He will report to Sokol.
Sokol will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of the division, which oversees the company's interests in joint ventures in Latin America, Canada, Japan, China and Australia, and includes operating functions supporting those businesses. Consiglio will assume greater responsibilities, in addition to those he already holds, in overseeing AOL's Asia operations and will support Sokol in managing the division's day-to-day operations.
Lynton said, "Jerry Sokol has played a central role in the strong growth of our brands around the world. He has a top-to-bottom knowledge of our businesses, our people and our markets and is the right person to direct our operations at a critical juncture, allowing Mike Kelly and me to focus on broader strategic concerns. Greg Consiglio has played an important role on the front lines as we built our business and will provide great support to Jerry and me in representing AOL with our joint venture partners."
In his current position Sokol has overseen global activities including the development of strategic alliances, new markets and new products; business planning; marketing; and e-commerce and advertising. Consiglio has been primarily responsible for overseeing growth in the company's Asia Pacific businesses. He opened the AOL Asia offices in Hong Kong and Beijing and currently oversees a team responsible for building the AOL business in China.
