Broadcast Worldwide launches radio channel on Worldspace

Radio Tara

MUMBAI: The Rathikant Basu-promoted Broadcast Worldwide has unveiled its 24-hour Bangla radio channel Radio Tara on 27 October on the Worldspace satellite radio network. At present, the channel is launched on a test run mode.

According to the Worldspace official spokesperson, Radio Tara will have its full-fledged launch by the end of November. "For the time being, the channel is transmitting back-to-back music. Radio Tara will acquire a magazine format in the lines of all our regional channels when it turns full-fledged ," the official informed. The official added that the radio signals are beamed via the AsiaStar satellite.

Broadcast Worldwide senior VP finance and business development Harish Katyal told indiantelevision.com that the company would be unleashing the radio channel's promotional and marketing activities in November.

"Now we have soft-launched the channel. The publicity and marketing campaigns will begin in November," he offered.

Overall, WorldSpace has 30 radio channels to its credit. It has eight Indian radio channels which include Sparsha (Kannada), RM Radio (Malayalam) and KL Radio (Tamil). The revenue model of the radio network is purely subscription-driven. The yearly subscription for a Worldspace radio connection costs Rs. 1200. The network is planning to introduce more dedicated channels in other regional languages.
