MUMBAI: Deepak Bukshi, who has directed several TV serials, ad films and telefilms, has sold the rights of his first feature film Meri Marzi to Raas Infotainment. Meri Marzi, a film revolving around children, will be released in theatres either on 25 April or 2 May 2003. Raas in turn, is talking to several broadcasters for the sale of satellite telecast rights, it is learnt.
For his directorial venture and "dream project", Bukshi took on a lot of television child and adult artistes. "I needed fresh people who would listen to me as I had a clear cut idea about the character portrayals. Several film stars have fixed expressions and wouldn't have fit into the groove," he told indiantelevision.com.
Meri Marzi stars Vishal Solanki (child artiste in TV serials such as Family No 1, Shakala Boom Boom), Baby Yashaswini (Deepak Bukshi's five year old daughter), Humayoon, Gautami (Ghar Ek Mandir, Kshitij, Intezaar aur sahi) and other TV stars such as Guddu Maruti, Rajender Mehra, Sadid Siddique, Avtaar Gill, Mustaq Khan, Rajesh Puri, Dolly Bindra, Ajay Wadhavkar, Dhalnaz Paul, Gopi Bhalla, Aruna Sangal, Anjan Shrivastav and Rishab Shukla , amongst others.
When questioned as to how his film would fare when pitted against Shringar Films' Chhota Jadugar, Bukshi says: "Meri Marzi is a movie which puts forth the idea that kids are the actual heroes of their family and of society as a whole. The freshness of the theme will be very appealing to the audience. Chhota Jadugar is a dubbed film based on fantasy which has been oft-repeated in Bollywood."
The film revolves around the kid named Sunny (played by Vishal) who plays the lead role. "Meri Marzi is a mirror of today's kids who see life from their own perspective and want to do everything in their own way and how they don't wants parents, teachers to interfere in their life-but how at the end, they need them all to grow up as a responsible human being," adds Bukshi.
Bukshi has directed TV serials like Namaskar and Rang for UTV; Evidence (starring Om Puri) for producer Pahlaj Nihalini; Zehar for film producer Sudhakar Bokade; a comedy serial titled Chun Chun Ka Murabba for film producer Prakash Mehra.
Bukshi has written, produced and directed more than 100 short, documentary and TV films in different formats for various ministries of India, Doordarshan, UNICEF and USAID.
Bukshi has directed a feature film titled Meri Pyari Nimmo for NFDC starring Raghuvir Yadav, Pallavi Joshi, Anjan Srivastav, Rajendra Gupta, Pawan Malhotra, Anang Desai, Shammii Aunty, Gopi Desai and others.
Bukshi directed another film titled Ghunghat for NFDC starring Rameshwari, Anand Desai, Saadia Siddiqui, Gopi Desai and Avtar Gill. He received an award for the script of Ghunghat in the script competition organized by the government of India's department of family welfare, ministry of health and family welfare. He has also done other films for NFDC such as Jeet and Prayaas; short films such as Tum Bhool Na Jaana for Films Division.
