MUMBAI: Finally there was good news for New Zealand director Peter Jackson in terms of award recognition. After being snubbed at the Academy Awards Jackson's The Lord of The Rings - The Two Towers bagged the best picture prize at the MTV Movie Awards which took place on 31 May at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
The schizophrenic computer generated character Gollum won the award in the virtual performance category. LOTR also won an award for on-screen team comprising of Elijah Wood, Sean Astin and Gollum. The biggest money grosser from last year Spiderman was cited for best kiss and for female actor.
Perhaps in an effort to encourage a musician making a successful crossover to the silver screen, the broadcaster gave the best male trophy to Eminem for 8 Mile. The story of a rapper trying to make it in black man's territory mirrors the controversial rap stars life to an extent.
In addition, the awards show also gives an opportunity for stars of upcoming summer blockbusters to increase visibility. For instance, Demi Moore who is making a comeback by appearing in the sequel to Charlie Angels presented an award.
