MUMBAI: After the hard-hitting success of Netflix’s Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, tech giant YouTube is now investing in interactive content. As the platform is now working on interactive shows and live specials, the projects will exist under a new unit dedicated to such content.
According to reports, the interactive content would allow viewers to make their own choices throughout the show and eventually conclude an ending of their choice. YouTube’s former unscripted programming head Ben Relles will supervise the project.
“We now have amazing new tools and opportunities to create and tell multilayered and interactive stories,” YouTube’s original programming head Susanne Daniels said as quoted by Bloomberg. “Ben has an intuitive and experienced understanding of how the platform can enhance content, making him the perfect choice to develop this exciting new division,” she added.
Earlier the tech giant experimented with interactive advertising. But the new move will mark the entry in interactive narrative content. However, the number of interactive programs or live specials has not been revealed.
