ESPN STAR Sports to telecast 16th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup from May 5, 2007
MUMBAI: ESPN STAR Sports, India?s leading sports network, will telecast the 16th edition of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament 2007 LIVE and exclusive starting May 5, 2007.
Launched in 1983, Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament has emerged as a premium tournament worldwide. Staged every two years till 1998, the tournament is now an annual feature owing to the growth of popularity of the game in Malaysia. India will be looking to go a notch better from their third position last year and end a long standing drought of International hockey titles. The Dutch, who won the tournament in 2006, will not be defending their title throwing the race open to the three Asian sides- India, Pakistan and Korea, and to the four time champions, Australia. India and Pakistan have both won the tournament three times and the arch rivals would be looking to go one up by lifting the cup this time. This year the tournament is divided into two pools with India drawn with Australia, China and Argentina in Pool A. Pool B features Malaysia, Korea, Pakistan and Canada.
