• World's untold stories: Harsh Beauty

Submitted by ITV Production on Jun 18, 2007

MUMBAI: For centuries, Eunuchs have been an important part of Indian society. But the elevated role they once held has now faded.Today they live in isolated communities, working as prostitutes and beggars. Life may be hard but inside the community of hermaphrodites and castrated males, there‘s a real sense of warmth and camaraderie.

World‘s untold stories: Harsh Beauty follows the lives of Jyothi, Usha and Hira Bai, three Eunuchs struggling for acceptance in a culture splintered by religion, caste and politics. Filmed over four years, the documentary takes a warm and poignant look inside this usually hidden group.

‘Harsh Beauty‘ is part of CNN International‘s weekly 30 minute documentary strand, World‘s untold stories. Produced by UK firm Journeyman Pictures, the documentaries are fresh and compelling and aim to cover controversial issues that have been getting little or no media attention.

MUMBAI: An ingenious twist on the classic beauty pageant contest.

When 10 beautiful young women enter a television beauty pageant, they have every right to expect the high life. But instead, the dazzling beauties are dumped in the middle of the harsh Australian outback where they are about to get the shock of their lives.

Rescued by local cowboys, the 10 contestants are taken to live in a remote country town where they‘ll compete to win a big cash prize, but those serious about winning can‘t fall back on looks.

This reality challenge is about inner qualities and charm and the girls must dig deep if they are to stand any chance of taking out the ‘Miss Popularity‘ crown. The girls need to replace their vanity bags with sheer guts and determination because the folk from this outback town are the ones casting votes and ultimately deciding their fate. The challenges are tough, but the townsfolk are tougher when it comes time to choose who can stay and who must pack their stilettos and leave for home.

Its about winning hearts and finding beauty within; because theres no room for princess behaviour in an outback town from Down Under!

  • IAAF Golden League: Oslo, Norway Live on Ten Sports

Submitted by ITV Production on Jun 14, 2007

MUMBAI: One of the most famous athletics meetings in the world will be shown live on Ten Sports this week, with the broadcast of the legendary Bislett event from Norway, part of the IAAF Golden League

Among the highlights will be the 100 metres mens sprint where The reigning European champion, Francis Obikwelu of Portugal, will run against the worlds fastest man, Asafa Powell.

On a night that traditionally threatens world record on what is by reputation one of the fastest tracks in the athletics world, Meseret Defar of Ethiopia could well have her eye on the record books. She broke the world record on the women?s 5000m in New York last year with 14:24.53 and believes she can lower it further.

As ever the Bislett meeting will end in the ?dream mile?. The mens race over one mile is one of the highlights of the athletics year, and is where athletes such as Steve Ovett and Steve Cram both broke the world record in the 1980s.

The meeting is the first from the Golden League this season, with athletes aiming for a share in the one million USD jackpot that is available to anyone who wins his or her event in all 6 meetings. Last year the jackpot was shared between three athletes, Asafa Powell in the 100 metres along with two Americans, the mens and womens champions from the 400 metres, Jeremy Wariner and Sanya Richards.

The other events are in Paris, Rome, Zurich, Brussels and the final in Berlin. All the meetings will be shown live on Ten Sports in the sub-continent.
