  • Watch the 5th Episode of Bombay Lawyers on the complex cases of marital issues

Submitted by ITV Production on Aug 16, 2007

MUMBAI: The fifth episode of NDTV‘s new fiction series Bombay Lawyers, directed by Satyajit Bhatkal delves into a case of marital rape which sparks an acrimonious debate within the firm of Roy and Raghavan. The firm‘s enfant terrible Raj Narula (Rushad Rana) is defending not the rape victim but the alleged rapist. This goes against the very social philosophy of the firm. What makes the case interesting is that the accuser and accused are married.

Nawaz Irani (Manjushree Kulkarni) and Homi Irani (Amin Haji), are husband and wife, who are legally separated but living in the same flat with their son Zubin. Although their bedrooms are now separate, they still have common friends, who are trying to bring them together. The alleged rape takes place after a birthday party of their son. Homi Irani insists it was consensual sex and not rape.

Raj who believes that every accused has the right to a defense, has to pay the price for his beliefs. He is boycotted by his colleagues, Naina (Kadamari Kadam) and Maggie (Jyoti Dogra) and even Vivek (Murli Sharma) will have nothing to do with him. Only Aparna (Meeta Vashisht) is on his side. A strong opening by the public prosecutor (Jyoti Joshi) makes you think Homi could be guilty, but Raj‘s defense leaves you with a nagging doubt that Homi could be innocent.

Simultaneously in another case, Naina Jadhav has been appointed Amicus Curiae (friend of the court); by a judge who believes that a couple is colluding in order to get a quick divorce. The wife (Tejaswini Bhonjal) accuses the husband (Rajat Bhagat) of cruelty and he does not contest. The judge (Urmi Juvekar) smells a rat. Naina has to investigate their marital condition and report to the court. As Naina unearths the truth, she is in for a shock.

Watch the fifth episode of the first-of-its-kind fiction based mini series ‘Bombay Lawyers‘ with its unforeseen twists and turns only on NDTV India on Saturday 18 August, 2007 at 10:00 pm and the repeat telecast on Sunday 19 August, 12:00 noon.
