  • The Devil Wears Prada premieres Friday on Star Movies

Submitted by ITV Production on Nov 22, 2007

MUMBAI: In the world of fashion, all that glitters is not gold! Take a tour into the cutthroat world of couture with the TV premiere of The Devil Wears Prada on Friday, November 23rd at 9pm only on Star Movies!

The Devil Wears Prada stars two-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep (The Hours) as Miranda Priestly, the ice-cool editor of Runway, fashion‘s premier magazine. Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries) plays Andy Sachs, an idealistic, style-challenged journalist who lands a job as Miranda‘s junior assistant.

Intimidated by her perfectionist boss and derided by her catty colleagues, Andy proves she‘s more resilient than she first appears. Despite the demands of her boss, she completes Miranda‘s near-to-impossible tasks and eventually learns to appreciate the fashion industry.

For her role as the boss from hell, Streep was rewarded with her 14th Oscar nomination. In portraying a character reportedly based on Vogue‘s Anna Wintour, Streep said she wanted to make the character both relatable and realistic. "I was just interested in making a human being as contradictory and messy as we all are," she explained. "I think she is an exacting, highly disciplined, demanding, ambitious person who doesn‘t necessarily take the time for all the nice social lubricants that help make the workplace grateful and fun."

A commercial smash, The Devil Wears Prada took in over US$345mil at the worldwide box office. On the critical front, pundits praised the film‘s wit and Streep‘s peerless performance. The Los Angeles Times critic Carina Chocano described the film as "a sharp, surprisingly funny excursion into the catty realms of women‘s magazines." While Rolling Stone‘s Peter Travers called Devil "sinfully funny", New York Times critic Dana Stevens raved that "Ms Streep‘s Miranda inspires both terror and a measure of awe." Likewise, The Globe and Mail‘s Rick Groen quipped that, "The devil may wear Prada, but Meryl wears the crown."

Directed by David Frankel (Sex and the City), this stylish comedy boasts a strong supporting cast that includes Golden Globe nominee Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci (The Terminal).

Take a crash course into the world of high fashion with this fish-out-of-water tale packed with style, witty one-liners and a memorable turn from Meryl Streep. Catch the television premiere of The Devil Wears Prada on Friday, 23rd November at 9pm only on Star Movies.
