  • Anurag Kashyap on Director's Cut

Submitted by ITV Production on Apr 01, 2008

MUMBAI: What would the film industry be like without filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap? A little less controversial, for one, and certainly less insightful. Kashyap has, over the course of a very interesting career, created films that haven?t just added substance to the industry; they have also been eye-openers for those who have watched them.

The extremely rebellious scriptwriter-turned-director ? who made his mark with the controversial Black Friday ? is a completely different person when not behind a camera. For proof, watch him shatter a few myths on Director?s Cut this Sunday, April 6, 2008 at 8:00 pm, only on Zoom, India?s premier glamour and entertainment channel.

One of Bollywood?s most renowned scriptwriters, Kashyap takes us back to his days at boarding school, to a time when his short stories were often rejected. He shares a few childhood memories and, for the first time, some of his deepest secrets. Why does he feel the need to constantly experiment? Why does he dislike stereotype? How does he think the film fraternity and its personalities have changed over the years? The director tackles these and other queries, while also leading us through the plot of his much-maligned film, No Smoking.

Speaking of his faith in Indian cinema, he says, ?I believe it has a lot to offer; we have not exploited our full potential yet.? And there?s a shocker: ?I like piracy,? he maintains. ?I am here because of piracy.?

From his debut Paanch, which raised several buried social issues, to hard-won recognition, Anurag Kashyap has walked a long, difficult road. Accompany him on the journey through his past in this exclusive, no holds barred t?te-?-t?te with host Kabir Bedi on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 8:00pm.Only on Zoom.
