  • Zee TV sa re ga ma pa : Independence Day special

Submitted by ITV Production on Aug 12, 2008

MUMBAI: The day when India woke up to freedom back in 1947 was a day of great celebration. A country got rid of her foreign yoke and became a sovereign nation; she celebrated her sovereignty on this day - the triumph of numerous martyred souls. It was a day of fulfillment, it was the day of a new beginning, a birth of a nation . The long and difficult struggle had borne fruit at last, though the happiness was marred by the fact that the country was divided into India and Pakistan and the violent communal riots had left the countries permanently scarred.

On the eve of Independence Day this year, Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa makes an effort to relive the era of Undivided India. An era where the whole nation, forgetting all the discripancies stood together for a common cause ? Set India Free against the British Rule.In an effort to curb the disparities between the two nations, both the Indian as well as Pakistani contestants paid tribute to this concept of Undivided India.

As a mark of respect on such an occasion Saregamapa took the pleasure of inviting Indian Armed Forces to be a part of this show.

The most jubilant amongst all were the NRI participants. For them it was a different high to be celebrating Independence Day in this fashion. These kids who have been born and brought up abroad have never known the true essence of Independence. For them this episode was almost like celebrating a festival. The zeal, vigour and enthusiasm was there to be seen.

Some wonderful performances were put up by the participants. ?Pakistan Ki Beti?, Sara Raza Khan of Lahore, sang ?Aisa desh hai mera? from the movie Veer Zara, which depicted the concept of Undivided India beautifully. Mitika from Chandigarh performed on the number ?Bharat humko Jaan se pyaara hai? and Shujat from Pakistan performed ?Tere bina dil na lage?. Anupama performed ? Vaande Mataram? (lataji?s version) and Sayon from Kolkata performed on ? Vaande Mataram ? (A.R Rahman?s version). Fareed from Rajasthan performs Desh mere.

Though Himesh Reshammiya was missing from the show, his void was filled by none other than Shankar Mahadevan. His superb mimicry of Himesh put everybody into peals of laughter.
