• Madame Tussauds london introduces Sachin Tendulkar to his new wax figure

Submitted by ITV Production on Apr 14, 2009

MUMBAI: World famous visitor attraction, Madame Tussauds London, has flown its new wax figure of Sachin Tendulkar over 7,000 kms to Mumbai for a ?meeting? with the real cricketing legend. The record breaking ?master blaster? is the first Indian sports personality to be portrayed and Tendulkar was delighted to come face to face with his likeness at the Taj Lands End Hotel today.

Sachin Tendulkar said: ?I am very impressed with the figure and delighted to be honoured by Madame Tussauds?, commented the renowned batsman.

?It is the first time we have ever launched a figure overseas but we really wanted Sachin to see his likeness before it ?meets? the public in the attraction,? said Liz Edwards, Official Spokesperson at Madame Tussauds London. ?The figure will now be returning to London to join the ranks of sporting greats past and present in our Sports Zone. There will also be a cricketing challenge around the figure where guests can test their skills against the ?masterblaster? and we know it will be a huge hit with fans.?

Tendulkar met with Madame Tussauds sculptors in hometown Mumbai earlier in the year to be measured and photographed for the creation of his figure and donated the cricket whites his striking wax double is wearing. He follows in the famous footsteps of Bollywood giants Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.

The figure was created at Madame Tussauds studios in West London over a three month period. The first step is to craft a perfect clay sculpture from which the moulds are made to make an amazingly life like wax figure. Then it is over to a team of skilled hair and colour artists to insert the hair by hand and build up life like skin tones using layer upon layer of oil paint; every freckle, mole, dimple and wrinkle are accurately reproduced.

Sally Chatterjee, Interim CEO, Visit London said, ?London and India share a great passion for cricket and we are delighted that Madame Tussauds has unveiled a figure of Sachin Tendulkar. With the ICC World Twenty20 coming to London this June more cricket fans will have the opportunity to come face to face with one of their sporting heroes.?

Ritushri Dhankher, Press & PR Manager for VisitBritain India said, ?Getting your picture clicked with your favourite cricket and Bollywood star has become so much easier now you can you can buy your Madame Tussauds tickets here before you fly and also pay in rupees with VisitBritain.

  • MotoGP season-opener live on Ten Sports

Submitted by ITV Production on Apr 11, 2009

MUMBAI: The new season of the MotoGP starts with the season-opener in Qatar, and the race from Losail, followed by the entire season, will be available live and exclusive on Ten Sports, the most watched sports channel in the Sub-continent.

Live telecast of the CommercialBank Grand Prix of Qatar, which is held under lights, starts 10:15 pm IST on Sunday, April 12.

Valentino Rossi begins the defence of his MotoGP World Championship this weekend, and the Yamaha rider is in high spirits ahead of the first race of the year, even though rival Casey Stoner seems to have a hold in Qatar, where the Aussie will be going for his third straight win this year.

Rossi, who won at Losail in 2005 and 2006 but finished fifth last year, said: ?Qatar isn?t one of our strongest tracks, but we still have a few cards to play and I hope that a little more work will see us improve for the first race.?

Rossi?s immediate concern is the pace being shown by Stoner on his Ducati, but the Italian said not much should be read into the tests.

?Tests really mean nothing once you get to racing, the situation is totally different and really we have little idea what will happen until we get there. It?s all very exciting!

?I?m feeling confident, we?re in good shape even if we?re going to what was our worst track during testing, but I am happy about the performance of my M1 in general; Yamaha have done a great job and so this makes me happy.?

Meanwhile, Stoner issued an early warning to his rivals by clocking the fastest time in the first free practice for the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix on Friday, thus laying to rest any worries about his left wrist surgery last November.

Despite no lateral movement in the wrist, he timed 1 minute, 57.053 seconds around 17 laps of the Losail circuit in pleasant conditions. Rossi was second in 1:57.439
