  • HBO pays tribute to 9/11 with documentary and web initiative

Submitted by ITV Production on May 06, 2002

HBO has announced an initiative reflecting on the events of 9/11 in New York in collaboration with HBO.com, a web-based initiative and outreach campaign.
The site is a companion piece to the HBO documentary special In Memoriam: New York City which will debut in the US on 26 May. The programme features eyewitness accounts as well as news footage and extensive still photographs and video clips from more than 100 people in and around New York City.

HBO.com is accepting handmade memorial tiles, including drawings, photographs, collages, poems and more, which will be digitally transferred into a special Tribute Mosaic. Submission forms can be downloaded at http://www.HBO.com. In addition, visitors to the site can choose to use an online collage tool to create personal text and photo tributes by selecting from a variety of images, backgrounds and fonts.

The Tribute Mosaic will be part of the official HBO site that launches mid May. The site‘s ‘Give‘ section will offer information on charitable opportunities and support resources, with links to the Twin Towers Fund Web site and Network For Good. The site will also provide access to a ‘9/11‘ video archive area featuring former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, his staff and other officials discussing events of the day. The archive will include extended video recollections taken from the documentary and feature a timeline, descriptions of events and a corresponding map. The documentary is a production of Brad Grey Pictures and HBO.
